Question

Do people still buy art?

Context:

I’m a freelance illustrator who’s struggling to get enough custom. It feels like people don’t really buy art anymore? They will look at pre-made art and appreciate it, but not buy any to hang in their house or commission independent pieces. And if they do buy art, it’s mass-produced generic prints you can get at the local superstore or something. People don’t seem to attribute a cost to artwork or, when they have money, they just don’t think of artwork as something they want to spend it on.

I mean, it’s likely I’m also terrible at marketing myself, but I’m just wondering if I’m totally wrong here.

We actually own an art gallery in Canada and all we seems to get are people walking around and looking at thing « oooh you have a beautiful gallery » or « no we are just looking » it is so frustrating at some point. People doesnt seem to buy arts anymore and it makes me really sad to see that people buy less and less arts…
